VIDEO | Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates DRDO built, 300-bed dedicated Covid Hospital in Guwahati

Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a Rs 21.46 Core, dedicated 300-bed Covid Care Hospital at Sarusajai in Guwahati today, in the presence of the state’s Health Minister Keshav Mahanta and officials from the DRDO and state health department.

The Covid Hospital has been built on a fast-track mode by DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organization) and will act as an annex to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for treatment of Covid patients.

“This hospital is equipped with a liquid oxygen tank to ensure continuous supply of oxygen to patients. It (Medical Oxygent) shall be refilled weekly. Covid_19 treatment at MMCH and Singimari Hospitals will stop. GMCH and DRDO Hospital shall be available for treatment of COVID patients from now onwards”, said the Chief Minister about the new Covid Hospital.

The expandable lifespan of the new Covid Hospital is 5 years which can be further extended. This hospital will have 100 ICU beds and medical oxygen facility can be made available to the other 200 beds as well.

Lauding the role of Centre-State collaboration in fruition of the project, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said : ” We are grateful to DRDO for having been a generous partner in this critical project. This also is a fine example of center-state collaboration”.

Later today, Chief Minister Dr Sarma inaugurated an expanded Covid treatment facility of additional 20-bed ICU and 32 Oxygen Supported Beds at Kalapahar Covid Care Hospital in Guwahati, another annex of GMCH. ” It shall further add to Assam’s ability to cater to COVID treatment”, said the Chief Minister inaugurating the expanded medical facilities for Covid patients in the city.
