A day ahead of the 75th Independence Day of the nation, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met a delegation of Asom State Freedom Fighters’ Association at his office chamber in Janata Bhavan, Guwahati today.
The Freedom Fighters Association was headed by its president Krishna Lahkar and its general secretary Dwijendra Mohan Sarma.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office said : “ Chief Minister Dr Sarma, while acknowledging the unparalleled role of the Freedom Fighters’ Association in the following years of India’s independence, said that the Association has been playing a great role in sustaining the rich legacy of the freedom fighters of the state.”
The delegation submitted a memorandum containing their demands to the Chief Minister.
Dr Sarma assured that the state government would take proactive steps to enhance the amount of pension to the freedom fighters, extend pension to the family members, grant one time grant of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the martyrs in the freedom struggle, helping the Association with adequate financial help to build Freedom Fighters’ Bhawan in all districts of the state.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma felicitated President of Asom State Freedom Fighters’ Association Krishna Lahkar. Treasurer of the Association Kamal Chandra Lahkar, Secretary Binay Ranjan Sarma were also present during the meeting as part of the delegation, said the Chief Minister’s office.
