Assam to conduct State Board Exams for Class 10 and 12 in August : Education Minister Ranoj Pegu

Gana Adhikar News, Guwahati,  June 8 2021 :

In a rare departure from the Central Government’s Education Ministry’s decision to call off this year’s CBSE board exams due to the prevalent Covid pandemic in the country, Assam’s new Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced today that the state’s exam boards — SEBA and AHSEC — would conduct the board exams for Class 10 and 12 this August.

“We expect the whole process of conducting exams to be completed by this September 5. The state’s health department has informed us that though the Covid19 situation is likely to improve in July, however it won’t be conducive to conduct exams next month. Therefore, the probable dates for these exams would be between August 1 and August 15,” the new Education Minister of the state Pegu said.

Today’s decision to conduct Assam State Board’s Class 10 and Class 12 exams was reached at a meeting of stakeholders including student organizations and education department officials in Dispur.

‘Students appearing for the state board exams will be given the choice of papers. Moreover, they would not have to appear for all subjects’, Minister Ranoj Pegu said adding that the entire modalities for conducting the board exams would be announced soon. He also informed that all exam invigilators and staff members would be vaccinated.

It may be mentioned that in the state too there was a cross-section of opinions with one shade of vocal opinion advocating cancellation of the board exams for this year considering the high risk of exposure to the Coronavirus during mass gatherings at venues like exam halls and schools .
