Former Assam PWD Chief Engineer, noted citizen Mustafizur Rahman breathes his last in Guwahati Hospital

Former Chief Engineer of PWD Assam and a well known citizen of Guwahati city Mustafizur Rahman, breathed his last in a private hospital in Guwahati city Thursday morning.

His final rites The Janaaza were performed on the same day at the historic Islampur Kabrstan in Guwahati. He was 82.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and their respective daughters in law and four grandchildren.

His demise is being widely mourned in the state. “ The former Chief Engineer Mustafizur was born in Dhubri and was an exceptional multi-disciplinary sportsperson, who excelled in Cricket, Volleyball, Tennis, Football and Table Tennis. He also represented Cotton College, Assam Engineering College and local clubs. During his professional tenure, beginning as an Assistant Engineer in Assam PWD, he was posted all across the state”, reads an obituary received from sources close to the bereaved family.  

Among his major contributions to the development of the state was the construction of the roads and Fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district.

In separate condolence messages, prominent civil society organizations the Assam Civil Society and the Brahmaputra Valley Civil Society have deeply mourned the untimely demise of Mustafizur Rahman.

“ His passing away is an immense loss to the society as a whole and it would be very difficult to fill the void left by his departure ”, said the condolence message from the Brahmaputra Valley Civil Society.
