India is witnessing a steady decline in the number of Coronavirus cases and state governments across the country have begun rolling out the first phase of easing virus lockdown in place. The country on Monday reported 100,636 new Covid cases and 2,427 deaths over the past 24 hours .
India’s tally of infections now stands at 28.9 million, while the death toll has reached 349,186, according to Union health ministry data.
Assam, the largest state in Northeast India, is also registering a healthy decline in daily number of new Coronavirus cases. The state’s new Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly hinted that his government was mulling to ease the mini-lockdown in place all across the state, albeit cautiously, to kickstart the economy currently reeling from regulated shutdown and curfew due to the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic.
