Lieutenant General RP Kalita is new Commander of Indian Army’s Eastern Command

GA News , New Delhi, 25 January 2022 : Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita has been appointed as the new Chief of Eastern Army Command headquartered in Kolkata. He will succeed Lt. Gen. Manoj Pande who will join Army Headquarters as the new Vice Chief of the Army.

General Kaita was commissioned in 9 Kumaon Regiment in 1984. He had commanded III Corps ( Spear Corps) and was the Chief of Staff of Eastern Command. He is presently the Director General – Manpower Planning and Personnel Services – at Army Headquarters.

General Kaita is a recipient of UYSM, AVSM, SM and VSM.

He became the first Assamese to hold the charge of General Officer-Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.

General Kalita was born to a noted teacher in Lower Assam, Jogendra Kalita and Renu Kalita and, is an alumnus of Sainik School in Goalpara, Assam.
